Welcome to the Bullring, the blog dedicated entirely to empowering entrepreneurs and developers to start and run successful businesses based on recurring revenue models.

Let’s lay it out there. Recurring billing is a pain in the ass. Credit cards get declined for a million different reasons, you have to deal with upgrades/downgrades, proration, refunds, credits, customer communication, fraudulent transactions, and the list goes on. It’s no small task to implement a system that handles all of the potential pitfalls of billing on a recurring basis.

For our first startup, Grasshopper.com, we were certainly not immune to any of these issues. We built a custom system and have slowly been refining it over the last six years. Since that time, we’ve watched startups struggle with the same issues we’ve faced and saw a number of opportunities to remove the pain of implementing recurring billing. We wanted to give startups the business intelligence they need to make smart decisions and create a billing system that scales as they grow.

Six years and millions of transactions later, Chargify was born. It’s the recurring billing system that would have saved us a TON of headaches in the beginning.

The goal of this blog is to share our experience, best practices, and to help young startups learn about how to bill their customers successfully. We’ll conduct interviews with prominent folks in the SaaS and Rails community and help you identify metrics essential to your startups’ success.  Our hope is that anyone who bills their customers on a recurring basis will benefit.

It’s been a wild ride so far and we hope you’ll continue to be a part of Chargify’s journey forward.  If you are thinking about implementing recurring billing for your application or startup, we would love to be a part of yours as well.
